Just added an Elder Futhark app for runecasting! Use it alone or together with card spreads.
Find it under the Cartomancy/Runecasting section, and choose one of the following in the sub-menu:
- Elder Futhark 24
- (the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark)
- Elder Futhark 25
- (as above +1 blank rune)
Just like with cards, you should shuffle first and also later, can use or ignore reversed orientation with the checkbox, and can switch to any other deck/runes in the same spread.
The Elder Futhark is the oldest runic alphabet and was used by Germanic tribes during the 2nd to 8th centuries. It consists of 24 runes, the first 6 of which spell “futhark”, so calling it the “futhark” is a bit like calling the English alphabet the “ABCs”. Casting the futhark for divination is similar to any other divination with a random element. Each rune has different associations and meanings so they paint a picture when cast. Whether or not to use reversed meanings depending on orientation of the rune is optional, and some prefer to use a 25th runestone that is blank in order to fill in the gaps and unknowns involved with using such an old system (ie: things the original system could not have foreseen).
Details about the Elder Futhark App
The Futhark app tracks the order of all runes from start to finish. They start in order, and are never reordered unless you click “shuffle” or “restart”.
Reversed runes are also determined when you shuffle, and you can reshuffle the uncast remainder at any point after casting a few.
Long story short, it’s just like using actual runes from a randomness perspective. Nothing is determined on the fly, it all happens when you shuffle.
Use the “Restart” button to completely reset everything.
Use the “Draw” button to cast a rune (you probably want to shuffle first).
Feel free to switch from runes to cards and continue drawing during the same spread.
